KERATIN SMOOTHING TREATMENT
aftercare
Once you’ve had a Brazilian Keratin treatment done, you need to take special care of your hair to make sure that the treatment will last as long as possible. Keratin treatments wash away gradually over time, but with proper care, the results of your keratin treatment can last up to 16 weeks.
Brazilian Keratin Treatment and Hair Colouring
If you colour your hair, you can do so immediately before a Brazilian Keratin Treatment without damaging your hair or reducing the efficiency of your colour or straightening treatment. However, you should wait at least two weeks after the treatment before colouring hair again.
Post Treatment Period
Avoid getting your hair wet for four days after the treatment has been applied. This means no washing, swimming, or sweating—and stay out of the rain. Make sure to give your hair time to blend with the keratin.
Leave your hair down and unstyled for the first few days after a Brazilian keratin treatment. The keratin is still malleable, so if you put your hair in a ponytail or use a hair clip, it can leave dents in your hair. If you want to tie your hair up, wait until four days after the treatment, to ensure all the treatment has been washed out.
You are not supposed to use any hair products during 4-day waiting period, and if your hair does become twisted you need to use a flat iron to smooth it out.
Styling after the Treatment
Blow-dry your hair after washing, but avoid using hair products after the first shampoo. You don’t need root lifting sprays, mousse, hairspray or gels to style your hair after a Brazilian Keratin Treatment. Keratin will keep your hair in the right style without the need for styling products. Chemical-free products can be used, but an overuse of styling products could make your hair look dull and dirty. Instead, blow dry and run a flat iron over the hair to manage your strands into the right style to extend the length of your Brazilian keratin treatment.
After Treatment Precautions
It is also a good idea to wash hair less often to maintain the look longer, because the results wash out gradually. Be wary of exposing your hair to high levels of chlorine or salt water, and always cover your hair during intervals of high UV levels, as these factors will reduce the life span of the treatment.
Wear a cap when swimming. The salt from the ocean and chlorine from swimming pools can wash out your Brazilian keratin treatment. If you won’t wear a cap, take a shower before you go swimming, soak your hair, and comb in conditioner. The water will help fill your porous strands to avoid chemical absorption, while the conditioner will add a level of protection.
Keratin Aftercare Shampoos
In the months following the treatment, select a shampoo and conditioning set that is free of sodium and sulphates. For maximum longevity, purchase a shampoo that is specially developed for keratin aftercare. The shampoo will complement the keratin straightening treatment and the results will last longer.
Deep Conditioning
Use a sulphate free deep conditioning masque at least once a month. Deep conditioning works to nurture hair and helps extend the duration of keratin treatments. Once the treatment began wearing off a deep conditioning mask helps prevent the effects of humidity, keeping the hair less frizzy, smoother, and easier to style.
Night time Care
Sleep on a silk pillowcase at night. Traditional cotton pillowcases can create friction and disrupt hair follicles as we move, making your hair frizzy and the treatment short-lived. By sleeping on a silky pad, you’ll avoid roughing the hair strands when you toss and turn at night. Silk creates very little irritation, which means a longer-lasting keratin straightening treatment.
Brazilian Keratin Treatment Reapplication
On average, a Brazilian keratin treatment should last upto 16 weeks. After that, your hair will return to its normal state, but it should be healthier and softer because of the conditioning impact of the keratin. Once the effects of the Brazilian keratin treatment have worn off, then you are free to have the treatment applied all over again. The repetition of the process on your hair tends to enhance the quality every time you get it done. The procedure will be done in the same way as it was previously.
